Obafemi Awolowo University., 2023) FASAKIN, Iyabo AliceThe study determined the timeliness of payment of teachers' remuneration in Ondo State public owned secondary schools and investigated the teachers' level of dedication in the study area. It also examined the student engagement activities in the area. Finally, it determined the influence of teachers' remuneration on students' engagement in Ondo State secondary schools. These were with a view to providing information on the extent to which the teachers’ remuneration affect students’ engagement in Ondo state secondary schools. The descriptive survey research design using quantitative approach was adopted for the study. The population for the study consisted of 13,000 teachers from 300 public secondary schools in Ondo State. A total of 360 respondents were chosen using a multi-stage sampling procedure. Three Local Government Areas (LGAs) were chosen at random from each of the three existing senatorial districts using simple random sampling technique. Similarly, a simple random sampling technique was used to select four secondary schools from each of the three LGAs, totaling 36 secondary schools for the study. Furthermore, purposive sampling technique was used to select 10 teachers from each of the 36 schools who had been in service for at least three years. The justification for this was to ensure that teachers selected give reliable information on the timeliness of salary payment in Ondo State secondary schools. A researcher-constructed instrument titled Teachers' Remuneration and Student Engagement Questionnaire study (TR-SEQ) was used to collect data for the study. The research questions were answered using percentages, and the hypothesis was tested using linear regression. The results showed that Ondo State public secondary school teachers were not paid timely at the end of the month (𝑋̅= 2.025) and also teachers’ salary were not fully paid at the end of month (80.0%). The results also showed that teachers’ level of dedication was moderate, as 258 (71.7%) respondents agreed that teachers level of dedication was moderate. The results further established that teachers engaged students in schools by showing their students practical examples of the lesson during teaching (94.2%), students asked questions during lesson (95.0%), teachers asked questions after class (97.3%), teachers gave assignment to the students on topics treated (93.7%) and made use of instructional materials while teaching the students (88.3%). Finally, the hypothesis tested revealed that teachers' remuneration had no significant influence on students’ engagement in Ondo State (p = 0.013, r =0.811/ p<0.05). The study concluded that the extent to which the teachers’ remuneration affected the engagement of students was moderate.
