- ItemOpen AccessSalary Determinants and Teachers Mobility Among Private Primary Schools In Osun state(Department of Educational Managment, Falcuty of Education, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife., 2023) OJO, Yemisi comfortThe study examined the determinants of salary in private primary schools in Osun State; assessed the rate of teachers’ mobility in private primary schools in Osun State; assessed the relationship between salary and teachers’ mobility among private primary schools in Osun State; and investigated challenges associated with teachers’ mobility among private primary schools in Osun State. These were with a view to providing information on the rate at which salary differential determines teachers’ mobility among private primary schools in Osun State. The study adopted survey research design using mixed method. The population of the study comprised all the teachers and head teachers in approved 1163 private primary schools spread across the three Senatorial Districts and 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Osun state. The samples were 360 teachers and 27 head teachers using snowball and purposive sampling technique respectively. Two instruments used to elicit information for the study were Questionnaire for teachers and Interview Guide (IG) for head teachers. Data collected were analyzed using content analysis and percentages to answer the research questions, while correlation was used to test the hypothesis. The study showed that the determinants of salary administration in private primary schools in Osun State are; school income, teachers’ qualifications, bargaining power, degree of need of particular teachers and of service. Also, the rate of teachers’ mobility in private primary schools, Osun State is high because of reasons like governments’ empowerment scheme, salary differentials, better employment opportunities elsewhere, and school administrative styles. Besides, the challenges associated with teachers’ mobility in private primary schools in Osun State are on the school enrolment and development of pupils. Finally, there is significant relationship between salary determinants and teachers’ mobility in private primary schools, Osun State. This study concluded that private school owners should be aware of salary determinants to be able to curb the incessant mobility of teachers from their schools.
