dc.description.abstract | The study assessed the availability of play facilities in early juvenile education centers in Lagos State. It explored the extent of the usage of play facilities in early juvenile education centres in Lagos State. It examined factors affecting the availability and the use of play facilities in early childhood care education centers in Lagos State. The study also assessed the risks experienced in the use of play facilities in the study area. It examined how the risk experiences with the use of play facilities are being managed in the study area. It assessed the centres' risk management procedure of play facilities in the study area. These were with the view to providing information on the availability, utilization, and risk management of show facilities in early juvenile education centres in the study area. A descriptive survey research design was used in the study. All one thousand and four (1004) public early childhood education (ECE) centers in Lagos State made up the population. 208 Early Childhood Education centers, 104 administrators, and 104 teachers from the centers made up the study's sample, totaling 208 respondents. A purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample for the study based on the availability of the early childhood education section. This study utilized two research instruments namely; the Early Childhood Care and Education Play Material Checklist (EPMC) and Play Facilities Risk Management Scale (PFRMS). The Initial Childhood Care and Teaching Play Facilities (EPMC) Checklist was used to assess the availability of play facilities in early childhood care and education centres in Lagos State, while the Play Facilities Risk Management Scale (PFRMS) was used for research objectives. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentages, mean, and standard deviation. xiii The study's findings indicated that the play facilities available in Early Childhood Care and Education centers in Lagos State were vehicular gadgets (small trucks, cars, trains, and farm vehicles with gear panels) (x̄ = 2.01), kitchen utensils (spoons with and without strainer holes, eggbeaters, tongs, pots, pans, muffin tins, and whisks) (x̄ = 2.02), and play telephones (x̄ = 2.04). Results showed that the extent of use of play facilities was relatively low at a weighted average mean value below 2 (x̄ = 1.99) in Early Childhood Education centres in Lagos State. The result showed that lack of Early Childhood Education professionals (x̄ = 2.24), more unqualified Early Childhood Education professionals were employed (x̄ = 1.91); the available play facilities were not relevant to the teaching in early childhood centres (x̄ = 2.02) and poor teacher-pupil relations (x̄ = 2.25) were the factors affecting the availability and the use of play facilities in Early Childhood Care and Education centres in Lagos State. Results of the study also showed that most immense play facilities are prone to injure pupils (x̄ = 2.01), most preschooler teachers do not read through the play facilities before use (x̄ = 2.01), play facilities were being utilized neatly and kept/store properly after use (x̄ = 2.00), early childhood educator inability to utilize play facilities leads to ignoring the facilities (x̄ = 1.70) and some play facilities not coming with user manual (x̄ = 1.45) were the risks experienced in the use of play facilities in Early Childhood Education centres in Lagos State. Results of the study further revealed that the extent of risk associated with the use of play materials managed by teachers was relatively low at the weighted mean value below 2 (x̄ = 1.99) in Early Childhood Education centres in Lagos State. Results of the study also revealed that Early Childhood Education management organise committee to check the play facilities functionality (x̄ = 2.61), Early Childhood Education management mandate programmes related to training preschooler teacher in the utilisation of play facilities (x̄ = 2.29), Early Childhood Education centres provide funds for the purchase of cradle play facilities for the teaching and xiv learning (x̄ = 2.04) and management organise yearly workshop and seminar for preschool teachers on the maintenance of play facilities (x̄ = 2.04) were the management procedures put in place for play facilities in Early Childhood Education E centres in the study area. The study concluded that the availability of some play facilities was low and that the utilization of the facilities was relatively low. Even though no risks were reported, risk management procedure needs to be put in place in Early Childhood Education centres in Lagos State. | |
