The purpose of this study was to assess the gait characteristics [gait speed, cadence, stride length, step length, step width and foot angle] balance performance [balance confidence and functional reach distance] and walking ability of hemiparetic stroke survivors and to determine the effects of gender, type of stroke and laterality on these variables. This was carried out with a view of improving the gait and balance assessments and retraining of stroke survivors.
