    Design Proposal for Automobile Service Centre in Abeokuta.

    The focus of this research is the analysis and evaluation of issues relevant to the programming and design of an authomobile service centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The method used included a literature search and a field survey and evaluation of some existing automobile service centres in Nigeria. The function of the service centre includes the servicing and repair of automobile and the training of staff. The spatial requirements of the centre are determined by sizes of equipment, the operational processes of service and repair, and the convenience of workers. A design for a service centre at Abeokuta was proposed.

    Design Proposal for a Museum of Art, Craft and Archaeology Complex at Akure, Ondo State.

    This thesis is primarily concerned with the study, planning and design of a museum of arts, crafts and archaeology at Akure in Ondo State. The museum represents the optimal solution for protecting and adequately displaying to the general public all valuable artistic expressions belonging to the history of the people of the state. The thesis thus starts with a background study by looking broadly at Nigeria, touching at some facets of her culture and defines the major elements of Ondo State culture. It examines museum typologies and traces their development in Nigeria, justifying a museum of arts, crafts and archaeology for the state and then looks critically at some existing museums as examples for a pleasant and, realistic design. The features of the state and Akure town are then considered in order to arrive at the most suitable selection of the location for this museum. The thesis thus concludes with the study of the site selected and all design considerations concerning this specific proposal.

    Public recreational space appropriation in Lagos state, Nigeria

    This study examined the design and physical characteristics of public recreational space in Lagos State, Nigeria, examined the socio-economic characteristics of users of public recreational space, identified and analyse the activities in public recreational space in relation to space appropriation. It also analyse space appropriation in public recreational space and examined the factors influencing space appropriation in public recreational space in the study area. These were with a view to informing design policy and evolving user friendly public recreational space. Data for this study were obtained through mixed method. Quantitative primary data were obtained through questionnaire administration, while qualitative data were obtained through direct observation. Two categories of public recreational space namely: Parks and playground were identified. There were seventeen(17) public recreational space in the study area Ten (10) parks and seven (7) playgrounds. Two of the spaces were purposively selected from each category. Accidental sampling was adopted for questionnaire administration on the visitors while random sampling was adopted for non visitors (Visitors were those that use the space for recreation activities while non-visitors were those that carried out activities different from recreation such as buying and selling). Secondary data were obtained from Lagos State parks and Garden (LASPARK). Data collected were analyzed using frequency distribution, quality of recreational spaces index (QRI) and Categorical regression analysis. Results of the study on design and physical characteristics revealed that attribute with the highest rank is accessibility with mean index (MI) of 42.2 across all the selected areas. Findings on socio economic characteristics showed that male accounted for 61.3% of the visitors and 25.6% for the non-visitors. There was dominance of respondents between the age of 16-55(92.6%) among the visitors and 96.5% among the non- visitors, findings also revealed that 53.6% are married among the visitors. Findings on activities revealed that 36.2% of the respondents participated in active sport games. Finding on issues of appropriation revealed improper spreading of goods on the walkways and so on. Result on factors influencing PRS indicates that the overall activities across all the areas and the physical, socio economic characteristics in PRS are significantly influenced by accessibility(0.347), Comfort(-0.294), safety (-0.367), affordance (0.256), gender (0.070), age (0.122), marital status (0.119), ethnicity (0.235), religion (0.139), Occupation (0.148),education level (0.176), household size (0.140) and social status (0.139) respectively. The study showed a significant relationship among all the activities across the selected areas in public recreational space. The study concluded that improper activities carried out by the users reduced the quality of public recreational space while accessibility, comfort, safety, affordance, gender, age, marital status, ethnicity, occupation, education level, and social status were significant factors that influenced the activities of public recreational space appropriation in Lagos State.
