    Assessment of the knowledge and level of awareness of teachers handling dyslexia in lower osun state.

    The study examined the level of teachers’ awareness on dyslexia symptoms in lower primary school pupils in Osun State. It determined the status of dyslexic children based on school type in lower primary schools in the study area and determined teachers’ knowledge of dyslexia symptoms in lower primary school pupils in the study area. It also investigated the influence of variables such as educational qualifications and years of teaching experience of teachers on awareness of symptoms of dyslexia in lower primary school pupils in the study area. These were done with a view to increasing teachers’ awareness on dyslexia symptoms in lower primary school pupils in Osun State. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population for the study comprised all lower primary one, two and three teachers in Osun State. The sample for the study consisted of 270 lower primary school teachers. Multi stage sampling procedure was used to select the sample for the study. Three Local Government Areas (LGAs) were selected from each of the three senatorial districts in the State using simple random sampling technique, totaling nine LGAs. Ten primary schools (five private schools and five public schools) were selected from each LGA using simple random sampling technique, making a total of 90 primary schools. In each school, three teachers were selected from primary one, two and three using purposive sampling technique because the three classes are the lower basic classes, making a total of 270 teachers that constituted the sample for the study. One purposely-designed instrument titled ‘Level of Awareness of Teachers Handling Dyslexic Children Questionnaire’ (LATHDCQ) was used to collect data for the study. The LATHDCQ has five sections. Section A consisted of the teachers’ socio-demographic information; Section B contained 10 items on the level of teachers’ awareness on dyslexia based on ‘Very Well’ (VW), ‘Partially’ (P) and ‘Not at All ’ (NA);Section C contained 10 items on the status of dyslexic children, based on ‘Yes’ and ‘No’; Section D also consisted 10 items on teachers’ knowledge of dyslexic children based ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ and Section E consisted 10 items on the influence of teachers’ variables on teachers’ awareness of symptoms of dyslexia in lower primary school pupils, based on ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ in the study area. Data collected were analysed using frequency counts, percentage and regression analysis. The results of the study showed that the level of teachers’ awareness on dyslexia symptoms in lower primary schools is moderate at 51.5%in Osun State. Results of the study revealed that the status of dyslexic children in private schools is low at 53.6% while the status of dyslexic children in public schools is high at 51.6% in lower primary schools in Osun State. The results of the study further indicated that the teachers’ knowledge of dyslexia symptoms in lower primary school pupils is average at 52.2% in the study area. Results of the study finally pointed out that there was no significant influence of variables such as educational qualifications and years of teaching experience of teachers on awareness of symptoms of dyslexia in lower primary school pupils in the study area (R = 0.3%; p > 0.05). Based on the findings of the study, it is concluded that teachers’ knowledge of dyslexia symptoms in lower primary school pupils is average and that the level of teachers’ awareness on dyslexia symptoms in lower primary schools is moderate in Osun State.

    Assessment of implementation of mathematics curriculum in senior secondary school in Ogun State, Nigeria.

    This study assessed the adequacy of contents coverage of Mathematics curriculum in rural and urban areas in senior secondary schools in Ogun State. It also examined the usage of appropriate instructional materials for the implementation of Mathematics curriculum in rural and urban areas in senior secondary schools in the study area. Furthermore the study compare the adequacy of assessment procedure used during the implementation of Mathematics curriculum in rural and urban areas in senior secondary schools in the study area. These were with a view to providing information on the extent of implementation of Mathematics curriculum in Ogun State. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population for the study comprised of all public senior secondary schools in rural and urban areas of Ogun State. The sample for the study were 90 public senior secondary schools two (SSII) Mathematics teachers drawn from the three senatorial districts using multistage sampling procedure. Three Local Government Areas (LGAs) were selected from the three senatorial district in the state for a total of nine LGAs, five rural and five urban senior secondary schools were chosen from each Local Government Area (LGA) and one mathematics teacher from each school was chosen using simple random sampling techniques. Two instrument were used to collect data for the study, namely: Mathematics Curriculum Implementation Retrieval Sheet (MCIRS); and Mathematics Curriculum Implementation Observation Check List (MCIOCL). Data collected were analyzed using frequency counts and percentages. The results showed that Mathematics curriculum contents in Senior Secondary Schools in Ogun State were fully implemented in urban areas having mean score of 1.5 and above in all the item sampled unlike the rural areas which all the item sampled are below mean of 1.5 except two items that have 1.5 and above. The finding of the study showed that teachers in urban areas uses instructional materials with the mean score of 0.9 as the highest and 0.6 as the lowest mean of all the item sampled while rural areas did not use instructional materials with the mean score of 0.6 as the highest and 0.3 as the lowest. Finally the result of the study show that the assessment procedure used during the implementation was adopted with the mean score of 0.9 as the highest and 0.6 as the lowest mean score and the assessment procedure used in the implementation was good in both rural and urban areas.     Comparative effectiveness of collaborative and flexible grouping learning strategies in enhancing senior secondary school physics students' learning outcomes in Osun State, Nigeria.

    This study compared the effectiveness of collaborative and flexible grouping learning strategies in enhancing immediate academic performance of Physics students in Senior Secondary Schools in Osun State. It also compared the effectiveness of collaborative and flexible grouping learning strategies in enhancing delayed academic achievements of male and female Senior Secondary Physics students in Osun State. It further compared the effectiveness of Collaborative Learning Strategy (CLS) and Flexible Grouping Learning Strategies (FGLS) in enhancing Physics students’ science process skills in Senior Secondary Schools in Osun State. These were with a view to providing empirical information on the effectiveness of these strategies on the teaching and learning of Physics among students in the study area. The study adopted a pre-test, post-test control quasi experimental research design. The population for the study comprised all senior secondary school Physics students in Osun State. Three intact classes of Senior Secondary School Two (SSS 2) Physics students constituted the sample. Sample was selected using Multistage Sampling Procedure. From the three senatorial districts in Osun State, one senatorial district was selected using simple random sampling technique. One Local Government Area was selected from the senatorial district. The selected schools were assigned to the collaborative and flexible grouping learning strategies, and the Teacher Expository Strategy (TES). Two instruments were used to collect data for the study namely- Physics Achievement Test (PAT) and Science Process Skills Observation Checklist (SPSOC). PAT was used to collect information on the academic and delayed achievements of students and SPSOC was used to collect data on students’ acquisition of science process skills. Data collected was analyzed using Analysis of Covariance. The results showed that significant difference exists in the effectiveness of Collaborative and Flexible Grouping Learning strategies in enhancing immediate academic performance of Physics students (F= 9.545, p < 0.05). Results also showed a significant difference between the effectiveness of the strategies in enhancing delayed academic achievements of male and female Physics students in Osun State Senior Secondary Schools (F= 3.623, p <0.05). Results further showed that there is no significant difference between the effectiveness of collaborative and flexible grouping learning strategies in enhancing Physics students’ science process skills in Osun State (F= 0.225, p > 0.05). The study concluded that CLS was more effective than FGLS in enhancing Senior Secondary Schools Physics students’ science process skills in the study area.

    Knowledge and practice of contraceptives among adolescent female students in Osun East Senatorial District, Osun State Nigeria.

    The study assessed the knowledge and practice of contraceptives among adolescent female students in Osun East Senatorial District, Osun State, Nigeria. It examined the adolescent female students’ knowledge of contraceptive, assessed the level of contraceptive practice among the adolescent female students, and investigated the correlation between contraceptive knowledge and practice among adolescent female students in the study area. These were with a view to providing information on the knowledge and extent to which adolescent female students use contraceptives. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population comprised all adolescent female students in urban and rural areas in secondary schools in Osun East Senatorial District, Osun State. The Sample size for this study consisted of 320 adolescent female students in Senior Secondary School I to Senior Secondary School III who were selected using multi-stage sampling procedure. Two Local Government Areas (LGAs) were selected from the senatorial district using simple random sampling technique. From each LGA, eight schools were selected using stratified sampling technique with location as stratum (urban-8 and rural-8 making 16). From each urban school, 30 respondents making 240 were sampled while ten respondents were sampled from each of rural schools using quota sampling technique. A self-constructed and validated questionnaire titled Knowledge and Use of Contraceptives Questionnaire (KUC-Q) was used to elicit information from the respondents. In order to determine reliability of the instrument, test-retest was conducted among twenty (20) respondents who were not part of the study. They responded to the questionnaire twice, with a two-week gap between the tests and the reliability test yielded r = 0.78 using Pearson Moment Correlational analysis. Data collected were analysed using appropriate descriptive and inferential statistics.Results indicated that female students in the both rural and urban areas have knowledge of contraceptives (t = 2.4; df = 30; P > 0.05). Also, the practice of contraceptives was found to be low especially among the rural school students. In addition, there was a significant positive relationship between practice and knowledge of contraceptive (r = -0.753**, p<0.05) at 0.01 level of significance. The study concluded that female adolescent students in both urban and rural schools have high knowledge of contraceptive and contraception, but urban adolescent female students had moderately high level of practice as against their rural counterparts who demonstrated mderately low level of contraceptive practice.

    Assessement of the implementation of biology Curriculum in Senior Secondary schools in Osun State Nigeria

    The study examined the qualification of teachers implementing Biology curriculum in Senior Secondary Schools in Osun State. It assessed the availability and adequacy of instructional resources for the implementation of Biology curriculum in Senior Secondary Schools in Osun State and also assessed the teaching methodology used by Biology teachers in Senior Secondary Schools in the study area. These were with a view to providing information to educational stakeholders on the inherent challenges facing the implementation of Biology curriculum in Osun State. The study adopted the descriptive survey design. The population comprised all Senior Secondary School Biology teachers in Osun State. A total of eighty (80) Biology teachers constituted the study sample using simple random sampling procedure. Four Local Government Area (LGAs') were selected from two senatorial districts in Osun State using simple random sampling technique. Furthermore twenty schools were selected from each LGAs using simple random sampling technique. Two teachers were sample in each schools. One Biology teacher was selected using simple random sampling technique in each schools for the study. Two research instrument were used for the study namely; Biology Teachers Questionnaire Form (BTQF) which was used to gather information about the teachers demographic status and Biology instructional resources methodology observation checklist (BIRMOC) which was subject to two parts. The first section was used to collect information about the availability and adequacy of instructional resources in the study area while the other part was used to collect information about teachers compliance with the methodology listed in the Biology curriculum in the study area. The data gathered were analyze using descriptive statistics of frequency, average mean and percentages. The results revealed that Osun State Biology Teachers Implementing the Biology Curriculum are qualified to teach Biology and were licensed by Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). The findings also revealed that 53.1% of instructional resources was available in the study area and the level of adequacy of instructional resources was 36.1%. The study revealed that there is moderate level of adequacy and high level of availability of instructional resources in the study area. The study further revealed that 93.8% of Bilogy teachers complied with the appropriate methodologies stated or recommended in the curriculum to teach their topics. Based on the findings of the study, the researcher concluded that Biology teachers in the study area had a qualification that measure them up to the minimum requirement for implementing Biology curriculum in Osun State. The study also concluded that the level of availability of instructional resources was high and die level of adequacy was moderate in the study area. The study also concluded that the teachers implementing Biology curriculum are of high compliance to the recommended methodology listed in the Biology curriculum.
