Abstract
This study evaluated the knowledge generation and utilization performance and the operational environment of the Nigerian innovation system with the aim of establishing the level of technological capability building in the manufacturing sector. In conclusion, the Nigerian innovation system was generally too weak to support sufficient technological capability building in the manufacturing sector due to factors such as low spending on R&D, low level of S&T human resources , poor state of research facilities and poor linkage between academic /research institution and firms.
